Strap on your running shoes!

The weather is getting nicer and it’s a great time of year to put on a pair of running shoes and get outside for some exercise.  Yeah, yeah, we all know that exercise is good for your heart, blood pressure, stress and all… more importantly though, The Bucket Brewery is the official beer sponsor of the Rhode Island 6 Hour Ultra-marathon and Relay on November 11, 2012!  Last year this duty was taken on by Harpoon, so we have some big shoes, and many pint glasses to fill.

The 6 Hour Ultra and Relay is an annual race put on by the Tuesday Night Turtles running club and organized by local runner, Bob Jackman.  The event takes place in Warwick City Park from 8:00am-2:00pm.  Each runner or team runs repeatedly around the 2.7 mile trail loop through the park for six hours. Ultra-marathoners do this themselves, and teams of up to six people split the time up amongst their runners.  Whoever has completed the most laps when the clock hits six hours wins! The Bucket Brewery’s own Nate Broomfield will be running for the Wild Colonial relay team for the third time.

So what does it mean to be the official beer sponsor?  Well, we supply a some beer as prizes for first, second and third place in the relay.  That’s great for the fastest people out there and all, but what does it mean for everyone else participating?  Only free beer at Track 84 after the race!  Yup, Bucket will be flowing at the after party, free for race participants.  If that’s not a reason to get out there and run, I don’t know what is.
